Born in Ebolowa, Cameroon, bassist and composer Armand Sabal-Lecco was among the pioneering African musicians who helped redefine the sound of the world music genre in the 1980s. A specialist in creating musical bridges between cultures, he has worked with an impressive list of artists including Sir George Martin, Peter Gabriel, Ringo Starr, Ziggy Marley and Manu Dibango, among many others. Armand has composed for world-renowned artists including Carole King, Jeff Beck, Stewart Copeland and Herbie Hancock.
His piece “Fulani” was featured on Stanley Clarke’s Grammy Award-winning album The Stanley Clarke Band. He has also received recognition from the Recording Academy for his outstanding work on the Grammy Award-winning albums Out of the Loop and Return of the Brecker Brothers by the Brecker Brothers, Paul Simon’s The Rhythm of the Saints and Alejandro Sanz’s MTV Unplugged.
