Scientology Network’s DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE, the weekly series providing a platform for Independent filmmakers to air films on important social, cultural and environmental issues, presents the documentary Memphis Majic, a look at the origins of Jookin’, a popular dance form born on the streets of Memphis, on 12 August at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Created by African-American youth, Jookin’ has captured the world’s attention and has been called “urban ballet.” The dance form has generated opportunities for the city’s youth, including a recent stage show tour across the US that may not have been accessible to them otherwise.
In an interview with Scientology Network for DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE, Bailey reflected on using the power of film to inform audiences:
“This dance is a gateway to looking into a larger picture of American history.… I’m interested in how history has played a part in the development of this country, and how we can make this America a better place. And I think one of the better ways to do that is through the medium of film.”
With a worldwide audience, Documentary Showcase offers Independent filmmakers an opportunity to showcase films to effect positive change in the world.
DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Scientology Network.
