Scientology Network’s DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE, the weekly series providing a platform for Independent filmmakers to air films on important social, cultural and environmental issues, presents Stand, the dramatic story of grass-roots activism aimed at preserving the culture and beauty of British Columbia, on July 26.
DOCUMENTARY SHOWCASE premieres Fridays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Scientology Network.
Stand presents the story of Norm Hann, a paddleboarder who sets out to thwart a proposed oil pipeline that poses a threat to the pristine waterways and lush rainforests of British Columbia.
Through stunning photography, co-directors Anthony Bonello and Nicolas Teichrob take viewers on a journey along the coastline of western British Columbia, a place of immense beauty, unspoiled ecosystems and a way of life for BC’s indigenous people. Through it all, the filmmakers document one man’s effort to save the region from being forever lost to Big Oil’s attempts to rake in big bucks. Stand demonstrates the power of the individual in building a grass-roots protest movement and winning against all odds.
Stand received multiple awards for Best Film in festivals around the world, including Movie of the Year (SUP Magazine Awards) and Best Environmental Conservation Film (CMS Vataravan, New Delhi, India).
Filmmaker Anthony Bonello is a passionate skier, climber and surfer who has used these pursuits to challenge himself and explore the world. He later joined Switchback Entertainment as a producer and editor on the feature-length documentary, Snowman. Bonello is also a published freelance writer and photographer.
Nicolas Teichrob is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker from British Columbia, Canada. His photos have been published internationally in skiing, biking and surfing media outlets.
